Battle of Ziegenfeldt (2) - initial movements

The battle commences ....
---oXo---
Count Pottsendorf watched his jagers advance towards the farm on the left flank, it appeared they would have to contest it with the Wittenberg King's Jagers ..
The Count checked his right flank, some movement - the Wittenberg cavalry had shifted position and a regiment of infantry was now visible....
The Wittenberg artillery open fire, targetting the infantry on the Saxe-Jarlsberg right flank ...
The Saxe-Jarlsberg artillery return fire ....
Count Pottsendorf kept his attention on his right flank, more Wittenberg cavalry was now visible ..
The Count's aide appraised him of developments on their left flank - two regiments of Wittenberg infantry were moving up ....

Battle of Ziegenfeldt (1) - take your positions ..

The opposing forces have deployed,
Saxe-Jarslberg at the front of the table and Wittenberg at the back; Saxe-Jarlsberg has one regiment of infantry off-table on their left flank; Wittenberg has three regiments of infantry and one of cavalry off-table behind their centre (units are off-table mainly due to my narrow table which does not give much of a deployment zone !)

Count Pottsendorf rides along the front of the Saxe-Jarlsberg army to resounding cheers from his troops ...

Meanwhile General Waldebeck (Wittenberg) watches with disdain and issues orders to his adjutant to alert the troops stationed behind the grenadiers to prepare for action ...

Encounter at Wendelshaus ....

At a small hamlet of Wendelshaus near Ziegenfeldt, a Saxe-Jarlsberg dragoon patrol falls back after running into a detachment of Wittenberg jagers ....

The movements:

  • Wittenberg: General Waldebeck had marched his troops hard, left the main road and moved towards the centre of the Hoflandt aiming for Ziegenfeldt.

  • Saxe-Jarlsberg: Count Pottsendorf had secured Montberg and ensured supplies were brought up, this caused some delay; not finding the Wittenberg troops on the road to Marienstadt he had swung the army north.
