Wittenberg.. Cavalry Regiment Leib-Kurassier (no1)...

 The Leib-Kurassiers have joined the Wittenberg army; the figures are my own home-casts..

Here they are with the rest of the "heavy's" - Kurasssier No2,  Leib-Carabinier Gardes and Garde Du Corps.

More Rats....

 Rat Man has gathered more rats to his mischief; a few more giant rats and some ordinary rats who act as scouts around the town...

Action at Dinkelhof

Saxe-Jarlsberg troops with the grenadier regiment from Munkasse have taken up position in the the town of Dinkelhof in a narrrow valley sided by woods.. They are blocking the advance of the approaching Noverre army.  The Noverre commander sends a troops on ahead of the main body to take the town.

Early morning at Dinkelhof, troops have stood too, after scouts reported an enemy column approaching along the road....

Saxe-Jarlsberg troops in Dinkelhof stand to at the barricades....

The Munkasse grenadiers move up into position as some Saxe-Jarlsberg uhlans trot across to join the rest of their regiment...

The Noverre columns moves onwards...

and start to deploy 

they are soon in place ....

The Saxe-Jarlsberg uhlans wait for orders ...

A brief encounter, half the uhlans break up a squadron of Noverre dragoons who rout ....

The uhlans don't pursue and trot back to reform...

The Noverre commander plugs the gap in his line with some infantry... just as they get in place the Sax-Jarlsberg uhlans charge straight into the Noverre Claire regiment....

Noverre regiment Navarre steps forward and exchanges musket fire at long range with the Munkasse grenadiers - the Noverre musket fire is ineffective, but the Munkasse grenadiers' volley rips through the opposition and the Noverre troops will fall back...

The Noverre Clare infantry fire at the charging Saxe-Jarlsberg uhlans, but the volley is very ragged and has little effect, the melee goes badly for the Noverre unit which breaks and routs....

The Saxe-Jarlsberg uhlans follow through and charge into Noverre regiment Bentheim still in column of march, they get ridden through ...

they break and rout.....following the Noverre Claire regiment back down the road ... 

The Saxe-Jarlsberg uhlans trot back to reform...

With insufficient troops to carry on the fight, the Noverre commander orders a withdrawal.

a victory for Saxe-Jarlsberg ....

Notes:

• Scenario: based on 'The Post House' from Table Top Teasers: The Return Volume 1 by Charles S. Grant.
• Tried out 'Honours of War' rules for this game.
• At the critical moment the Noverre musketry proved to be useless; dice throws lowest (1) and minimal effect.  On the other hand the Saxe-Jarlsberg uhlans threw an almighty 6 for their melee effect and the Noverre infantry a dismal 1 - end result a ride through and straight into a Noverre regiment in column - game over !

New Grenadier unit....

The Wittenberg army receives a new addition - the converged grenadiers of the Saxony regiments Rochow, Graf Bruhul, Zu Fuss and Konigen.

Who was that ?

Late afternoon in down-town Wittenberg, the notorious cutpurse and robber Armin Salzer, known as "Mr Snatch" was up to no good. "I say you ! Give me back my purse !" exclaimed a well-to-do man, as Mr Snatch made off with his money...

as Mr Snatch ran round the next corner and was confronted by a strange man - "Get out of my way" he shouted;  the man said "No" very menacingly....

Who do you think you are ? said Mr Snatch

"I'M RATMAN"

Mr Snatch didn't like the look of him at all and took a step back...

Even less so when more very large rats appeared ....

Mr Snatch made a run for it with the Rat man and his rats following...

......... Mr Snatch ran right into the town patrol and was arrested...

One of the patrol tried to catch Ratman, but he disappeared into a side alley....

Who is Ratman ? Will he be seen again ?

At Dungolfing...

 Prince Michael of Munkasse with cavalry escort has reached the safety of Saxe-Jarlsberg territory and is about to arrive in the small town of Dungolfing....

The small town is a hive of activity; it is the place where the Saxe-Jarlsberg army is mustering to get ready to help Munkasse get rid of the invading army from Noverre.

Some units have arrived and put up their camps; men are busy on the edge of town filling barrels....

Wagons with provisions are arriving...

Men are getting wood from a stand of trees for camp fires and for the bread ovens....

Bread being prepared for baking....

The bread ovens are busy, there will be lots of troops to feed.....

The Battle of Mikkelheim

continued form the previous post....

The Noverre advance guard column approaches....

They don't waste any time; the light infantry move through the woods on their left flank...

while the infantry forms up....

The Munkasse troops stand ready for action.....

The Noverre light infantry move out of the wood and come under fire from the Munkasse infantry in the wood to their front...

The Noverre line infantry advance with their right flank protected by their cavalry....

The Noverre light infantry exchange fire with the opposition....

then attack across the stream....

after exchanging vollies the lead Noverre infantry regiment charged ... the Munkasse regiment held the charge....

the Noverre dragoons rode through the Munkasse land militia and charged on into the Munkasse cavalry..

The Munkasse light infantry were soundly beaten by the Noverre light infantry who ejected what was left of them from the wood

The Munkasse dragoons recovered and put a up fight against the Noverre dragoons...holding them back

The Munkasse line infantry was holding off the Noverre line infantry at the stream; when the Noverre light infantry moved out of the wood unexpectedly round the flank of the land militia who broke and scattered ....

The Noverre infantry exhausted broke of their attack and fell back.....

The Munkasse dragoons eventually lost the melee, the Noverre dragoons pursued them and went after the routing land militia as well.

The Munkasse line infantry regiment managed to withdraw in good order, keeping the Noverre light infantry at bay ....

A victory for the forces of Noverre

The Noverre vanguard would however have to reform and rest after the fight, which they did with alacrity in Mikkelheim drinking all the wine and beer they could find.  

The battle delayed the invaders enough to allow Prince Michael of Munkasse and his court to evacuate the capital and head for safety in neighbouring Saxe-Jarlsberg.

The Munkasse armed forces re-grouped and made their way to join the Saxe-Jarlsberg army who were coming to their aid.
