Under Wittenberg (4) ... Into the Treasure Chamber ....

continued from the previous post....

They crossed the pit picking up a new assistant in the form of a cat, down the steps and into another passageway ..

and the other party were heading in the same direction, parallel to them 

The men form the royal society passed through a door into a large chamber...

while they were were looking round they heard the noise of footsteps and low voices, they moved cautiousy towards the sounds ...

The other party (Red Jack and some of his gang) were also finding their way around the large chamber...

The two parties could see each other dimly in the lights from their lamps....

Suddenly two of  Red Jack's gang rushed the men of the royal society; the cat scurried off into the darkness as one of the gang turned on their leader Red Jack ...

She knocked Red Jack down and went to help the men of the royal society...

In the darkness and confusion with some light provided by dropped lamps, the affray continued ...

Red Jack had managed to get up, grab a lamp and with the monk headed back out the door they had come in .... meanwhile two of Red Jack's gang had been knocked to the floor...

The men of the royal society found out that the the person who had come to their aid was Mlle Jeanette Dimanche, one of Givenchy's Irregulars who had infiltrated Red Jack's gang. The two remaining rogues after coming round were held at sword point while someone went for the guard on the church crypt door...

Some time later the two rogues were escorted out and off to the town jail, under the watchful eye of Mlle Dimanche..

With additional guards, the work cataloguing the contents of the large chamber could proceed. The great golden bell - could it be the be the 'Mother of Voices' ?

amongst the other items was a large gold cup - maybe this was the fabulous 'Whorled Cup'?

The contents once catalogued were to be removed to the Kings treasury for safekeeping and study. How they would get the great bell out would be a challenge..

Under Wittenberg(3) ... over the pit ...

It took some time to find some workmen and organise the construction of bridge and install it to get over the pit. At last they were moving on again, they crossed the bridge carefully, a set of steep steps down awaited them .....

The other party had run into difficulties, they found the tunnel they were going down had collapsed. The monk after consulting his book said there was another alternative - they headed to a building by the old town gate...

they went down into the cellar, found the hidden trapdoor and climbed down a rickety old wooden ladder into the passageway below....

then along for a ways, through a doorway and then turned right ...

Under Wittenberg (2) ...another passage ...

   Before they ventured back underground the investigative team sought out the help of Brother James to do some research on Theoderic III -  the King kindly gave them permission to access books in his personal library.

   As they browsed the library Brother James (with the help from his invisible friend Gerald, described here) found the book which contained a bound copy of the manuscript of Fabricatus . This manuscript describes how a distant ancestor of Theoderic III discovered the fabulous treasure of the 'Whorled Cup' and made his way into central Europe carving out a kingdom for himself. The manuscript indicated that the Whorled Cup and the remaining part of the treasure had not been seen since the time of Theoderic.

In the early afternoon they returned to the tomb of Theoderic and started searching the dead-ends for the same sort of release mechanism that had been on the main door of the tomb.

As one of the team pressed a symbol of a cup high up on the forward niche, a rumbling was heard and the wall slid back slowly revealing another gloomy passage ahed ...

They passed through the doorway and found a steep set of steps going upward ....

Two ventured up carefully and nearly fell in a large hole ....

they would have to bridge the gap, some planks of wood would be needed ....

News of the discovery of the tomb had filtered out and some shady adventurers had found information on the tunnels under Wittenberg thanks to a duplicitous monk who possessed an old book; in the under-cellar of the Red Dragon inn they looked for an access doorway ...

The monk found the lever and the hidden door opened, they ventured down the dank passageway ....

Large Church Facade (2) - finishing off ...

 Filled in the back of the casting ... will add extra detail if needed once painted...

and altered the front base to give some better more even steps

The whole thing has been re-painted a soft stone colour.. 

The blocked in back is OK, I may embellish it more if needed, should be OK for now...,  my existing large church repainted in the same colour - looks much better together.

better get back to my 'under wittenberg' exploration ...😀

Under Wittenberg (1) down the steps and ...

After the discovery of a secret door in the crypt of St Barnabas,  a group from the Royal Society were sent to investigate. They arrived at the church in the middle of the afternoon ...

The door was opened quite easily, lamps were lit and they ventured down some steps into the gloom....

They moved along a short passageway, it was a bit damp with the odd rat running around...

Shortly they arrived in a small chamber, with a tomb at its centre. They studied the inscription, it was the long lost tomb of the medieval king Theoderic III.

One of the royal society calculated that they were directly under the preaching cross in the square in front of the church about 30 ft or more down. There were two passageways leading off the tomb chamber, which appeared to be dead ends. They decided to investigate further the next day, a guard would be put in the church crypt by the doorway, there were stories about the treasure of Theoderic - they did not want anything disturbed.

Down town Wittenberg ....

 I recently invested in a 3'x3' cobblestone game mat from Deep Cut Studios. I had long wanted to do a sort of down town Wittenberg setup so I started putting down buildings and added in my civilian figures as well..

After a bit of fiddling about and using up all my suitable buildings I managed to get a layout I liked on the mat....

A couple of closer in views ...

I am planning to have a small solo game, where the the tunnels under Wittenberg are investigated - town setup on one side of the table and the other is going to be underground entrance and passageway sections on a black surface... 

A large church facade...

I had recent post on Duchy of Tragardland about seasonal scenery in mind when I was out shopping at a local emporium and wandered over to the Xmas section to see what they had in the way of usable items - most were the usual Xmassy stuff and not much use. I browsed the Lemax accessories and then the buildings - one item stood out a large church facade with towers.  I have an interest with church architecture and it was one of those 'thats mine' moments.....

Superb as a backdrop 'low-relief' items and goes right with my 28mm figs (and would be OK with my 40mm figs too 😀).  Was it a good match with my large church made with Pegasus gothic building kits (PKPG4923, PKPG4924, PKPG4925).....

Oh yes, just looks like a made-to-measure fancy west end facade...

a bit of work to do to make the front fit better- it needs a suitable back and some padding pieces to make a better join to the large church. A nice little modelling project..
