At Mikkelheim....

 The forces of the Duchy of Noverre (French) are marching on the Principality of Munkasse who is an ally of Saxe-Jarlsberg (Brunswick).\

The small Munkasse army has sent part of its force to block the border crossing at Mikkelheim; not far from the only route through the heavily wooded hills of the border with Noverre. Their aim is to delay the Noverre troops as long as possible.

It was relatively quiet early in the morning...

The quiet was disturbed by the sound of drums beating as Munkasse troops passed through Mikkelheim
