A sighting ....

 The woodsmen hard at work on the edge of the Sackwald forest...

One of them looked up and saw some deer running fast out of the forest and across open ground towards a large coppice.. 

As he was just about to turn round he spotted a large animal moving after the dear.....

The animal stopped, and moved towards the woodsmen slowly, as it got closer one of the men fired a shot at it ...

The animal startled ran backwards, halted, looked in the direction of the woodsmen; then it turned and headed off after the deer.

The animal looked something like a wolf and almost as large as a cow; it was a sort of brownish colour with a long tail ending in a tuft.   There were some odd animals in the depth of Sackwald forest, perhaps this one was in search of food.   

One of the woodsmen remembered old tales of the 'Sackwald Beast' he was told when he was a child.  Within a day of their sighting, rumours of the beast were spreading around the area, farmers kept a close eye on their livestock.
