Jagers on the Hunt.......

Recent sightings of the the beast had been around the area of scrubby open woodland near Runtsdorf...

Captain Scharfe and his jager company, along with a local guide, investigate ....

They fan out to cover more ground ...

as they move through the scrub and heathland a couple of dear run out of a small stand of trees....

a little later on a wild boar scuttles away from them ....

Scharfe thinks he sees something in the trees ahead, but loses sight of it ...

The jagers continue their sweep,  they spot some more dear running quickly ...

then they find out what from,  a small pack of wolves comes out of the trees; its leader is very big..

The wolves edge forward and move to attack the jagers; 

The jagers fire, some of the wolves are killed but the rest are still coming at them including the big one ....

the jagers take on the wolves

They manage to beat the big wolf off...it backs off snarling ...  one of the jagers has been kill by another wolf..

and the big one attacks again ....

just fended off, some of the men reload as they watch the fight...

The big wolf has had enough and makes a run for it limping somewhat .. they fire at it and miss....

it is getting away from them ... Scharfe and one jager still have their rifles loaded... they fire ...

down goes the wolf, they close in to ensure it is dead ....

A good day's hunting, a pack of wolves eradicated.  

Unfortunately one jager was killed by another wolf; others are badly bruised, some have scratches & bites from the encounter.  They take the big wolf back to show to the towns people.

Notes:

A first try out of my hunting and event rules - playing card based with look-up tables; and D6's for actions etc.  A lot of warts in the rules, some areas definitely need a re-think.
