The Xmas snow hadn't lasted, it had melted quickly followed by slightly milder than usual weather. The Beast had been sighted nearer the Sackwald Forest in an area of rocky terrain; plus a couple of attacks had been reported on livestock nearby.

The Royal Huntsman and some jagers had moved into the area to start hunting for the beast ...
The jagers worked their way over the rocky terrain of a hill...
while the Huntsman moved into the valley ...
The jagers finished searching through the rocks and started to move into the valley ...
as they did so a small group of deer ran out of a small stand of fir trees...
The Huntsman moved up onto the next hill to have a look around ...
The mule train with the supplies arrived ...
In the late afternoon they set up camp in the valley in a sheltered spot; the Huntsman and the jager officer discussed their plans for the next day ....
