The King takes action ...

News of the Sackwald Beast's attacks on livestock and people had reached the capital. The King held an impromptu meeting to discuss the matter and decide a course of action.

  • the provincial governor for the affected region listed the sightings, attacks on livestock and also the attacks on the populace along with a list of the dead.
  • the Kings archivist mentioned also the possibility that the Brethren of the Wolf (that had been suppressed in the 1690's) could be active again and could account for some of the deaths.
  • the representative from the Royal Society, showed them an old woodcut showing the beast which was last sighted 120 years ago.
  • Count Munster, the chancellor, pointed out that some of the attacks and incidents may be due to wolves or bears.
The King mulled over the information and set out the following course of action...
  • A Jager battalion along with some mounted Feldjager would carry out patrols in the affected area; hunting for wolves, bears and the beast.
  • Agents of the King, under the direction of Count Munster would investigate if the Brethren of the Wolf was active again,
  • The Royal Huntsman and his assistants would be sent to the area to hunt and destroy the beast (with help from the Jagers as needed).
---oXo----

Within a couple of days the first elements of the King's Jagers had deployed and were starting to sweep the area where the beast had last been sighted...
