Raid on Raddenwitz ...

continued from the previous post ...

The Monrovian raiding flotilla moves in closer .....
One boat enters the port harbour ...
the Fenwick port guard have setup a defence point in a open warehouse on the main quay...
the troops from the first Monrovian boat take some casualties as they disembark and then get on with setting fire to buildings .....
The port guard fire across the harbour at any target, some return fire takes a one of them out ....
The marines have landed by the far end of the port and are crossing the bridge, while the troops from the third boat have landed and are moving up the near side ....
Reinforcements for the port guard are on their way....
the attackers from the third boat move inland and start their wanton destruction and fire setting ....
another part of the Fenwick port guard has barricaded the road from the harbour but is taking heavy casualties from the fire of the Monrovian marines.
the reinforcements arrive .....
more buildings are set alight as the Monrovians try and work their way towards the large granary ....
the Fenwick troops form up as the Mornovian marines start to cross the barricade
The commander of the raid orders the bugler to sound the recall .....
vollies down the road from the Fenwick troops keep the attackers from the granary, they start to fallback on hearing the recall ...
The Monrovians make for the boats and start to leave ...
The defenders ensure they have control of the main quay and try to put out some of the fires ....
Some Monrovians are picked off as they try and reach the last boat ...the raiding flotilla sails away...
the river port of Raddenwitz in badly damaged, with collapsed and burning buildings, plus some sunken boats.  The buildings on the main quay are undamaged and the main granary is unaffected.

What will Fenwick do in response ? It will take time for news to reach the capital - Duke Maurice although impetuous at times will surely do something to retaliate.  He must protect trade along the river Oudear.

Morning at Raddenwitz ...

On the northern stretches of the river Oudear on the side of the river in Duchy of Fenwick territory lies the small riverside port of Raddenwitz.

One sleepy monday morning .....
A small flotilla of boats has been spotted coming up the river by the harbourmaster and his assistant,  they cross to the other side of the harbour area for a closer look
A runner is sent to raise the alarm ....
The runner arrives at the guard house ....
The first of the boats comes into view ....
Meanwhile in the town the port guard has been assembled .....
The runner who brought the news has been sent to get re-inforcements from a nearby army camp; meanwhile more boats near the port .......

to be continued .....

In a Janissary style ....

As part of my 40mm sculpt and cast project for my 17C armies, I had a spare slot in a mould and decided to use it for a 'fantasy' janissary (see the green for it here). The mould turned out well and I've cast up a unit of janissaries. Some castings have been modified to make up officers and a standard bearer.

Currently in progress is a drummer and a mounted officer...
These chaps are most likely going to be added to Wittenberg's friekorps, although I have another idea for them - more at another time if the concept comes to fruition.

Duchy of Fenwick Dragoon Regiment...

Duke Maurice inspects dragoon regiment von Katte outside its barracks, along with the King's horse grenadiers...

[Dragoons: various Irregular Miniatures figures, some converted; these have been in use for about 10 years in different guises and I've used them to form regiment for Fenwick. The Horse Grenadiers mix of figures mostly converted, re-flagged (from Wittenberg's guard cavalry)]

40mm: New Uniforms for the Friekorps artillery ...

Count Boritzy watches his friekorps artillery at firing practice, decked out in their new uniforms (which of course they must of got a tad dirty in the course of events)...

[new heads and a repaint for the artillery crew - uniform in the style of Saxon artillery in the early 1730s]

A busy day for the King ....

The King had been working all morning to get through a backlog of paperwork; he had a light lunch and then continued on, he had nearly finished ( a clerk had already taken away the bulk of it), a few things remained.... he looked at the view out of the window for a while before continuing...

- authorisation for a new sun-dial for the palace gardens - signed
- authorisation of new boats for the river marines - signed
- new uniform for the river marines, he looked at the watercolour supplied
he scribbled some notes on the bottom of it (add collar, black buttons on gaiters...);  he signed the authorisation papers with a condition - make some minor amendments as per the notes on the watercolour.
- authorisation for special cold frames for growing pineapples - signed
- merchants request for an increase in trading tariffs on the River Oudear - rejected, added note - arrange meeting with representatives of merchants for discussions.

There was a knock on the door,  the King put down his quill pen and tidied up his desk; then he sat back and said 'enter', it was Count Hermann and one of his assistants.
Count Herman: Sire, an ambassador from Saxe-Jarlsberg has just arrived, he has with him a written peace offer from the Herzog and has requested a meeting with you...
King Leopold:  Tell the ambassador I will meet with him in one hour to receive his proposal.. ...

40mm: Janissary for the Wittenberg Friekorps (WIP)

Something a little different..

I had a spare slot in a mould in my 17C sculpt and cast project, so I thought I would make up a janissary similar to those in the army of Saxony in early 1730's. The figure is modelled so that with adaption it could be modified to make one from the 17C

The Boritzy Friekorps will get a battalion of these chaps, when I've got the mould made :)
