The awakening ......

continued from the previous post...

The next evening at the Palace the All Hallows Eve events were in full swing. Outside it was a crisp clear evening, and the constellation of Orion was rising .....
In the store room next to the museum the mummy stirred and rose from it resting place in the sarcophagus
The mummy wandered into the store room by the kitchen, frightening a scullery maid who ran away screaming  ...
There is much panic and consternation in the palace as the mummy blunders around; visitors and members of the court are ushered into the ball room for safety (one poor chap has fainted). The palace guards move to try and confine the mummy to the main hall.
Two monks from the abbey of Alt-Wittenberg, who by good fortune were visiting the palace that evening, confront the mummy in the main hall of the palace - chanting prayers in harmonic unison...
The King and Count Herman watch anxiously from the balcony of the hall ...
The monks chanting works and the mummy lays down, folds his arms and ceases moving ....
Afterwards ensuring the mummy is inert, it is sealed in its sarcophagus and given over to the safekeeping of the monks who take it away to the their abbey.

A liitle experiment ....

At a previous special meeting of the Royal Society - it had been agreed to try an experiment to see what effect Cantor's newly discovered electric fluid would have on the mummy in the palace museum.

Cantor had got his equipment ready; the mummy and its sarcophagus had been moved into a separate store room in the undercroft next to the museum. Cantor had setup his equipment and interested members of the Royal Society had come along to see what would happen.

Cantor adjusted the dials on his console and the small coloured globes flickered eerily. A sort of spritely crackly sound was heard along with a low hum. They watched in vain, nothing happened the mummy remained inert and lifeless. After a short while Cantor gave up and disconnected his equipment; the Royal Society repaired to another room to continue their discussions.

special meeting of the Royal Society

Brother James hurried along the path in front of the palace, he was late for a meeting of the Royal Society...
Brother James made his way through the palace to the museum in the undercroft, there he joined the rest of the Royal Society who where looking at an egyptian mummy ..
von Schenke presented his translation of the hieroglyphics, stating it was the remains of a King Rubbatiti. Cantor proposed they try an experiment to see what effect his newly discovered electric fluid would have on the mummy - maybe even bring it back to life. The others scoffed at the idea - but were keen to see what would happen. The meeting concluded and Cantor returned to his laboratory to prepare the necessary equipment.

Clear bases for figures ?

I've been looking for commercially produced clear bases for some time. Sally 4th now produce them in a range of sizes (Clear Terra-Bases).

I bought some to try out,  a quick comparison

left : figure on a base cut from clear plastic packaging (thinner)
centre: figure on Terra-Base, a bit thicker but Ok.
right: figure on terrained base - clashes with stone surface.

Similar comparison using 54mm figs from above (40mm bases), with a 28mm fig on penny size (20mm) clear base...
One risk of clear bases is the 'reflection' effect, this depends on lighting and angle of viewing; more likely with larger bases, as shown here with a 54mm figure.
Overall I think these new bases are really useful, avoiding the base<->terrain clash effect.

I'm most likely to use them for my 54mm roman civilians. I'll stick to my scheme (bases cut from clear plastic packaging) for my 18C palace civilians.
