Raid on Hinderhof ....

After the Monrovian raid on Raddenwitz, Duke Maurice of Fenwick decided on a suitable retaliatory action,  he diced to attack Hinderhof - a trading post for the lucrative furs industry.

A scratch Fenwick force of jagers, grenadiers and the river rangers sailed up the river Oudear and into a side channel to reach Hinderhof….

---oXo---

At Hinderhof, traders go about their business. A small detachment of marines is based here and in the town is a company of regular troops. Since the raid on Raddenwitz a lookout is being kept, just in case of trouble ...
The Fenwick flotilla works its way towards Hinderhof ...
After having run aground twice the lead boat towing the grenadiers is under way again ...
The Fenwick attack force is spotted by the lookout and he fires a signal of two pistols ...
On hearing the signal shots, the Monrovian marines head to their boat...
A couple of the marines move into the trading area, with the militia on the far shore ...
The Fenwick troops start to land, the river rangers are delayed as they had to take a longer route round to avoid running aground in the narrows ....
The local militia take flight after being fired on by the Fenwick jagers ...
The Fenwick grenadiers form up and prepare to advance to clear the headland ....
The Monrovia marines have got under way and are heading for the Fenwick river rangers boat ...
The Monrovian boat moves in and hits the Fenwick boat side on, both sides take casualties from musket and swivel gun fire ....
Meanwhile the Fenwick Jagers are moving into the centre of the trading area ...
The grenadiers have cleared the headland of opposition and are advancing .....
The Monrovian regulars hurry across the bridge from the nearby town ....
The collision between the boats has pushed the Fenwick boat towards the shore and grounded it, both sides try to grapple and exchange fire ...
The Fenwick grenadiers continue their advance, as the Monrovians start to deploy ....
The Fenwick river rangers have won the tussle between the boats, and the Monrovian one manouvres to the shore ....
The Fenwick grenadiers charge down the road ...losing some men on the way ....
A furious melee ensues ....
The Monrovians just get the upper hand, but both sides have taken heavy casualties .... the Fenwick grenadiers withdraw while the Monrovians re-group...
The Fenwick grenadiers as they withdraw manage to set fire to some buildings ..... the Fenwick river rangers managed to re-float their boat and have moved up to fire at the re-grouping Monrovians ....
with part of the trading post burning, the Fenwick troops withdraw ....
the fire in Hinderhof trading area raged for a while and set the adjacent storage barn afire as well.... the traders stock of furs and pelts was destroyed ....

A brisk little action! Interesting one for a post-battle debriefing, methinks? Who won? The raiders did some damage, but the defenders, later that evening, probably regaled the punters in the local tavern with stretchers concerning their heroic defence of the realm...

This was a great report. Boats, troops, cannons.... it doesn't get any better. Just a fantastic game to look at.
