The hunt for the Beast continues (day 2) ....

continued from the previous post .....

---oXo---

They broke camp in the morning (after a hearty breakfast) and headed up the next hill...
The Huntsman investigated the area with the large boulders, while the Jagers headed up to the rocky outcrop ...
Steep going for the Jagers ....
The dog found a trail, a mix of deer tracks and something like a large cat or wolf... a sign of the beast perhaps...
The Jagers find their way up onto the rocky outcrop...
after checking out the copse the Huntsman's party come across some deer ....
then they moved further into the valley...
as the Jagers move down hill...
still no sign of the beast ....
then suddenly out of the undergrowth a large snake appears, it reared up hissing loudly...
and strikes at the Jager in to it's front.....
after parrying a few strikes with his rifle and the other jager hitting hit with the butt of his rifle, the snake had had enough and slithered away from them .......
The end of another day. An unexpected encounter with the snake and at least some signs of the beast, in the form of tracks had been seen.  Time to setup camp and have something to eat...
As they settled down for the night........  strange sounds were heard in the distance - something like a snarl or roar; but these didn't last long . The Jager officer doubled the guard....

to be continued

I do like that scenic country! Give or take nature red in tooth and claw, and the occasional ravening beast, nice country for a sylvan stroll... or a woodland wander...
