The battle rages .....

continued from the previous post ....

The Wittenberg converged grenadiers open fire first and let loose a volley which rips through the Hess-Limburger regiment who break and rout ......
The Saxe-Jarlsberg guards advance to fill the gap and stabilise the flank ....
The two front line infantry regiments exchange vollies, both sides hold ....
The Wittenberg freikorps uhlans have charged the opposing dragoons and the freikorps chasseurs have moved forward to flank the Saxe-Jarlsberg guards....
Over on the Wittenberg left flank, Hofler's pandours are holding off Saxe-Jarlsberg jagers; a stray hot round shot has set one of the barns on fire, some men are detached to try and put it out ....
The Wittenberg curassiers charge and are checked by the opposing hussars from Noverre ....
In the centre, the two front line infantry regiments of both sides are holding their ground although somewhat thinned down by the firefight ....
The Saxe-Jarlsberg guards having lost half their strength fall back
Wittenberg freikorps uhlans are slowly pushing back the opposing dragoons and the freikorps chasseurs have swung round to protect the flank of the regular grenadiers...
The front line Saxe-Jarlsberg infantry regiment breaks after receiving another volley and flanking fire .....
The Saxe-Jarlsberg right flank falls back in good order, while the Wittenberg cuirassiers reform some dragoons come up to support them ....
The Saxe-Jarlsberg battle line has melted away, with no infantry left except in line except the sturdy men from Noverre .....

Count Pottsendorf orders the Saxe-Jarlsberg army to disengage and retire; their retreat covered by the cavalry.

The Wittenberg army is left in control of the battlefield,  their dragoons shadow the retreat the of opposing army.

Wonderful!! The burning house is great... beside the whole deployment. Difficult to see who will take advantage in the next steps..

Allan,

Wonderfully colorful troops and exciting action. Might we inquire as to what rules you are using?

For the big battles like these I use the Weight of Fire rules (with some minor modifications)

The only thing sadder than a battle lost is a battle won at such cost!!! Bill
