things don't always go smoothly with some projects, the embossed paper was nicely stuck down etc - then painted - a nice array of 'bubbles' turned up on it drying out - it would appear the paper is of marginally varying thickness and I in all likelihood I did not get the paper properly stuck down in places - so it dried unevenly leaving a bumpy surface
I have kept the leftover pieces, it may be better to use on smaller areas.
Could you apply pressure to keep the paper from bubbling while the glue dries? Perhaps not so much as to flatten out the cobbles but just enough force the paper flat.
ReplyDeleteOh dear , can you pop the bubbles then apply weight to straighten things out ?
ReplyDeletefirst thing I tried - no luck
DeleteWould it be possible to paint it before glue it down ? as I think the wetting of the paper after it was glued is what has caused the problem.
ReplyDeletetried painting a piece of the paper first - with variable paint thickness and wetness the paper 'warps' somewhat - haven't tried sticking it down yet.
DeleteIt actually looks fine to me... you often see cobbled areas with ridges and rides in like this.
ReplyDeletegood point, but the lumps are bumps are too noticeable with 28mm figs.
DeleteIt was a great idea...
ReplyDeleteHere is a link for a pre-made flexible texture sheet for cobbled roads, perhaps a solution if somewhat pricey:

nice looking product; a cheaper alternative is METCALFE MOO51 00/H0 COBBLESTONE CARD SHEETS - I have some of this which I used for my stone harbour wharf section tops.
DeleteAllan, many thanks! Cheaper is very often better! I wonder if I can find Metcalfe things this side of the water...
